Vacation or Holiday
As soon as somebody takes the name of vacation or holiday it brings back the memories of the holiday’s people have been experiencing in the past. The joys and adventurous one experience during a holiday or vacation tend to bring back emotional memories regarding that holiday trip. But the words vacations and holiday are not limited to only this as holiday is a subject of broader aspects. A holiday refers to a leave or absence from a regular job or place of work in order to rest and relax. A holiday may even refer to a particular journey or trip for the purpose of tourism or recreation. The un-official or official observances of religious trips, national or cultural holidays often escorted by celebrations such are public or religious holiday. A vacation or holiday break is often undertaken during some special holiday observations, celebrations or specific festivities. Some religious festivities are somewhat of more somber nature. Such times or vacations and holidays are usually spent with friends and family and to recollect with them. The longer breaks from an occupation or career are termed as gap year, career break and sabbatical.

Holiday is a retrenchment of holy and day or we can say that holiday is the combination of the two words holy and day. Holidays actually represent the special religious occasions and special religious days. The word holiday came into being through common usage to refer to any special day taken off in order to take rest instead of normal days of rest such as the weekends.

Vacation as a term means a lengthy or long time spent for the purpose of tourism or recreation away from school or work in the form of a pleasure trip abroad or to a pleasurable place such as a hill station or to a place with some historical evidence. Such holidays can also be in the form of pleasure trips to places which are near to the sea beaches as sea beaches are an attraction for people to de-stress from their usual place of residence.

The Americans of the latest European descent and the British descent also use the term holiday to refer to an annual leave. It is another expression of holiday which is used in Commonwealth countries. The people of Canada frequently make use of the term holiday and vacation identically while they are referring to a trip far from home or work place. Australians use the terms to refer to a gazetted public holiday or a vacation. But these terms cannot be used to refer to days such as Halloween or Mother’s Day or Father’s Day.

In the complete English speaking world which includes North America as well the terms holiday and vacation refer to a day which is set aside by a culture or nation and sometimes by multiple cultures and nations too for celebrating an occasion but often such days are set for some different kind of national or culture wide activity. A holiday is also used for the special days on which the offices and schools are closed like the Labor Day or the Independence Day.
